Grant Evans To All Instructors
Grant Evans is a father of two (10 year old and 2 year old) and has resided in Winterville since 2012. He’s a stay at home dad by day, having homeschooled their older son since pre-kindergarten. By night Grant is also an author, visual artist, and experimental musician. His discography spans a mosaic of genres, always shape-shifting to encompass new approaches to recording, sculpting both found and crafted sounds to form works that accumulate and degrade. With nearly 150 releases accomplished under his birth name, various monikers, and through multiple collaborative projects since 2008, his presence as an American composer continues to evolve. He has continued to perform both nationally and locally for nearly two decades at venues as prestigious as John Zorn’s the Stone in NYC to local favorites including Porchfest, Buvez, and Bolo Bolo Gallery.
He began exhibiting his visual art in 2001 and remains active as a painter, photographer, and collagist. His first book was published in 2020 quickly followed by his second on Portugal’s Paper View Books. Founding a boutique music label with wife Rachel Evans in 2008, the two have been making audiovisual works together since they first met in 2006. As in their artistic endeavors, the couple also take a collaborative approach to curriculum, educational events and more in their family homeschooling journey. Grant enjoys leaning into the interdisciplinary nature of non-traditional schooling so he and his son can pursue their passions alongside academics.
As an instructor Grant brings degrees in Digital Media, Film and Photography to the table, holding an AS from West Georgia and a BFA from LaGrange College. Grant previously taught the first Chess Club at Firefly in 2023-24 prior to the birth of their second child. In 2025-26 he returns with the Fungus Files course (a free curriculum from the American Mycological Society) in addition to Chess Club (with the aid of ChessKid.com’s lessons) to offer two of his favorite hobbies to a broad range of students. Whether identifying mushrooms while on a stroll with their toddler or solving tricky chess puzzles, Grant hopes to share the many positive takeaways he’s gained from these deep interests including mindfulness, cognitive development, and critical thinking with the Firefly Community.
